May 06, 2011

Elpida announced on May 2, 2011 that the company will begin DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) chip mass production with 25nm process technology at its plant located in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, according to the Japan Today. Mass production is slated to begin from July 2011. It is reported that Elpida's new technology will enable a silicon wafer to produce more chips and decrease power consumption, approximately 15% to 20% lower than its 30nm chips. The new DRAM chips are projected to be used for miniaturization of Smartphones and other similar devices.
